Getting started with Gammetry
Install on your Mac
- Download Gammetry.zip from the link in your email and double-click it to unzip.
- Right-click Install Gammetry and choose Open. The first time, macOS asks if you're sure. Click Open again.
- If your Mac asks to install the Command Line Developer Tools, click Install and wait for it to finish, then run Install Gammetry again.
- The installer sets everything up in a few minutes. It needs the internet this one time.
- From then on, double-click Gammetry to start. It opens in your web browser and works offline.
Target discs
Gammetry finds its place in every photo from numbered target discs on the floor. Use 12 to 20 discs, numbered 0 to 19, with no number used twice.
- Make them: the disc files come with Gammetry: laser-cut and UV-print files, and a paper sheet you can print at home and glue to card.
- Buy them: a ready-made set of 20 discs is sold at rlf3d.com.
Scanning tips
- Spread the discs out so every part of the floor has two or three discs nearby.
- Hold the phone flat and shoot straight down from about chest height. Overlap each photo with the last one by about half.
- Avoid hard shadows and glare on the discs. Even light is best.
- Tape the distance between the two discs that are farthest apart, center to center, and type it in before you press Stitch. This is the check that keeps the scan honest.
- Read the scan report. If it warns you, take a few more photos of that area.
Your license
After you buy, your license key appears on the thank-you page and in your email. In Gammetry, open Help → License and paste it in. Lost it? Go to My license and we'll email it again.
- Job pass: used the first time a job exports a cut file (DXF, SVG, Laguna .mmg or full-size paper templates). Re-exporting the same job is free. Gammetry needs the internet for a moment when a pass is used.
- Year: unlimited jobs for 12 months from the day you buy. It works offline.
Exporting
- DXF for CNC: inches, real arcs, layers named CUT, DRILL, POCKET, ENGRAVE and LABELS.
- DXF per sheet: one file for each sheet, with the sheet corner at 0,0, ready to load on the machine.
- SVG for laser: millimetres, red for cut and blue for engrave.
- Laguna .mmg: ready-to-run sheet files for Laguna CNC routers.
- Print on paper: a free one-page plan to scale with sizes, or full-size templates of every piece, tiled on Letter, Tabloid or A4 pages to tape together.
Always check a few key distances with a tape before you cut expensive material.
